Join Fishkill Farms, a 150 acre fruit and vegetable operation in New York’s historic Hudson Valley, just 70 miles north of New York City.
We offer organic and eco-certified produce through pick-your-own, a farm store, farmer’s markets and CSA. Over 100,000 visitors come to the farm each year to pick apples and other produce.
We're seeking an experienced Farm Manager to oversee the production of more than 100 varieties of eco-certified fruits and organic vegetables we grow. You will supervise a crew of year-round and seasonal farm employees, and manage all aspects of growing, harvest, and storage for our crops.
This is a salaried, full-time, year-round position, with a competitive compensation and benefits package.
Responsibilities:
- Daily oversight of all aspects of fruits and vegetable production, from seed to sale.
- Hands-on management of farming personnel and crews of up to 25 employees. Including training, scheduling, hiring, firing, and employee feedback through regular meetings and performance reviews.
- Create annual, monthly and weekly production plans in collaboration with Owner and General Manager.
- Coordinate harvest and packing to fulfill orders for multiple outlets on a weekly basis
- Operate, maintain and perform light repairs on a variety of farm equipment, from small tools to large machinery, tractors, and tractor implements.
- Knowledge and implementation of modern farming best practices in Integrated Pest Management, postharvest storage and food safety.
- Assist in agritourism operations, help on weekend pick your own days.
- Maintain detailed records of farming activities to satisfy organizational and regulatory requirements
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of management experience on a similar-scale fruit/vegetable operation
- Proficiency with agricultural equipment, commercial farming tools
- Ability to plan ahead as well as adapt to dramatically changing circumstances in the field and on the farm.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, and ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, and other planning and recordkeeping software
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience $70,000-$90,000 .
