What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Store Assistant Manager position at Fishkill Farms?
Job Title: Farm Store Assistant Manager
Job Title: Farm Store Assistant Manager
About the Farm:
Fishkill Farms is a 270 acre fruit and vegetable farm in East Fishkill, NY. Our homegrown organic and eco-friendly produce is marketed through our year-round Farm Store and Cider Bar, a strong Pick-Your-Own operation and our Farmers Markets. Starting with peas and strawberries and culminating with apples and pumpkins in the Fall, the farm provides family friendly outdoor-fun for the community. At our peak we host thousands of visitors to the farm daily.
About the Position:
The Assistant Farm Store Manager will work alongside our Store Manager to oversee store operations and sales of our homegrown fruits, vegetables, fresh- and hard cider, along with hundreds of other locally-made products, from local grassfed meats and cheeses, wines and liquors, to our homemade pies and donuts. They will participate in sales, customer service, merchandising, plus some aspects of group tours and events to provide a high quality experience for visitors to the farm.
This role involves supervising up to thirty staff in the daily Farm Store and Pick Your Own operations: stocking and maintaining fruits and vegetables, baking pies, preparing donuts, assisting customers, coordinating with the Cider Bar- and Events- managers and otherwise setting up the store at the beginning of the day or cleaning up at the end. There is a considerable change in operational focus due to seasonal farm production: Spring berries, summer fruits and Fall Pick Your Own. During the Winter the focus changes to providing a quality brunch over weekends and processing fruits for jarring and preserving. This is a hands-on job, requiring some rigorous physical work alongside staff, both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, but also an interest in learning about ecological fruit and vegetable farming techniques in order to engage with customers.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual to work for a family-owned business providing wholesome food and family fun for the local community.
