POSITION SUMMARY:
Fisk University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biology and/or Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
(BMB). The ideal candidate should be a teacher-scholar with demonstrated potential for excellence in student-centered
undergraduate teaching and for developing a research program capable of attracting external funding and publishing
peer-reviewed papers with undergraduate co-authors. Candidates should be able to teach introductory-level General
Biology courses as well as upper-level courses assigned based on need and area of expertise. The specific area of the
faculty-mentored research program is open, but should be amenable to undergraduate and Masters-level research
projects. The faculty member should be able to serve as a mentor in the Fisk-Vanderbilt Masters-to-PhD Bridge Program
and/or the Fisk-UIUC Masters-to-PhD Bridge in Quantitative Biology. A PhD in Biological/Biomedical Sciences or related
discipline is required, and postdoctoral training is preferred. Applications are being considered immediately; the

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in the major, establishing a productive and impactful research program
involving undergraduate and graduate students, and serving as academic advisor to students in the major. The
individual should be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Service on university committees and contribution to the development of the University’s Mission and Vision is also
required (www.fisk.edu).
Qualifications
Education: A PhD or equivalent in Biological/Biomedical Sciences or related areas from an accredited college or
university is required.
Experience: Prior college teaching experience and/or training is preferred. The candidate should have a proven track
record of research and publication in the candidate’s field of expertise, and evidence of success in mentoring.
