This highly visible position requires you to take charge and supervise aspects of the terminal strategic resource center (SRC), including the planning of vessel, yard, and gate operations. The Terminal Planning Manager is responsible for ensuring that the daily tasks are carried out as scheduled, within budget and in a safe manner. This position requires the Manager to plan a smooth transition of cargo operations while working closely with a wide range of industry groups such as customs, shipping lines, trucking companies, beneficial cargo owners, stevedores, and longshoremen.
Essential Functions :
- Manage a team of Assistant Operations Managers handling the planning of vessels arriving to the port, gate and yard operations handling truck activity throughout our yard as well as general break bulk and out of gauge operations.
- Plan and monitor the quality of operations, looking for ways to continuously improve.
- Interprets production reports and their use in improving operations.
- Interfaces with terminal management and union personnel to develop the most effective ways to utilize the terminal footprint, operate the equipment and get the most out of resources.
- Interfaces with maintenance personnel to allow equipment repairs to be made to minimize impact on production.
- Maintains safety programs.
- Work directly with the HSSE Manager monitoring and identifying opportunities to improve safety on terminal.
- Work directly and instruct our unionized workforce.
- Ensures that all longshoremen under their care follow all rules and abide by OSHA laws.
- Review long-shore payrolls daily to ensure accuracy.
- Liaise with the payroll department.
- Review and assist with the development of labor budgets daily, weekly, monthly.
- Complete required documents associated with planning operations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Liaise with the local Union Leadership daily for the placement of labor orders.
- Liaise with the Ports Harbor Masters Office for vessel planning purposes.
- Maintain KPIs related to vessel, yard and gate activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of work experience in the marine terminal, logistics, warehouse, supply chain or maritime Industry.Experience in a high-volume marine terminal environment.Experience as a vessel planner preferred.High school diploma or equivalent.Associate or bachelors degree strongly preferred.Experience with terminal operating systems required (Navis, Tideworks, Spinnaker etc.)Experience with MS products including but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Visio, Project, etc.Knowledge of Appointment Systems, RFID, OCR, AEI, DGPS, CCTV, and other forms of technology.Strong leadership and team building skills.Previous supervisory experience.Previous experience working with Unions preferred (ILA, ILWU, Teamsters, etc.).Lean Six Sigma training and / or knowledge is desired.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Some exposure to extreme weather changes and humidity / moisture relative to atmospheric condition variations. Includes exposure to extreme summer temperatures, as well as rain.Possible exposure to dust, chemicals, gases, fumes, smoke, excessive noise, and / or vibrations.Work is generally performed in an office environment.
