District Code of Character & Conduct Committee Member
- Starting Date : March 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025
- Stipend : $30 per hour. All work to be completed by June 30, 2025

Background Information :
The district has been awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education through the Rethinking Discipline Initiative. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's (Department) goal is to assist in the reduction of inappropriate or excessive use of long-term suspension and expulsion, including disparate rates of suspension and expulsion for students with disabilities and / or for students of color.
The district's current policies, procedures, and protocols related to challenging student behavior and disciplinary protocols (including suspensions & other exclusionary discipline) are in need of recalibration, realignment to current best practices (an emphasis on restorative practices and preventative, skill-building supportive interventions), as well as increased training and support for administrators who are making disciplinary decisions.
Members of the District Code of Character & Conduct Committee will participate in in-person professional development sessions focused on learning and developing skill sets to implement restorative practices (see Meetings #1-3 below). Members of this committee will also participate in virtual meetings (see Meetings #4-6 below) to discuss recommended edits to FPS Code of Conduct, receiving feedback, suggestions, and planning out strategic engagement of stakeholders (other staff, students, and families).
