What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Ambassador position at Five Horizons Health Services?
GOAL: The Campus Ambassador with serve as a peer sexual health educator. The candidate will serve as an essential liaison to Five Horizons Health Services ensuring students (Alabama State University, Trenholm State Community College, and Tuskegee University) receive relevant, age appropriate, and engaging messaging to promote positive sexual health. They will work to empower college-aged adults to make informed decisions about their sexual health through various types of media messaging, and approved coordinated student events (virtual and/or in-person).
The Campus role is a yearlong, part-time position dedicated to promoting awareness on sexual health topics, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and accessing resources to help educate their peers on a variety of sexual health topics, such as HIV/AIDS, STI prevention and treatment, PrEP services, HIV/STI testing services, intimate partner violence and safer sex practices. All services and activities should be free of bias/discrimination, diverse to service all student populations and LGBTQ friendly and supportive.
DUTIES:
- Work directly with FHHS Prevention & Outreach Staff (20hrs/week x 44 weeks)
- Work to establish social and professional networks within the college/university.
- Participate in comprehensive trainings on a variety of sexual health topics, such as HIV/STI, prevention and treatment, safer sex practices and the use of condoms, LGBTQ health, mental health, intimate partner violence and healthy relationships.
- Coordinate and implement outreach programs on college/university campus to improve sexual health literacy of peers, increase access to testing, risk reduction supplies, information and resources..
- Advertise programming through multi-media community outreach.
- Submit program narrative that includes outcomes at the end of each semester.
- Assist with developing PSA’s as needed for community events.
- Report weekly tasks via department Progress Monitoring
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
- Sophomore, Junior or Senior currently enrolled at Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, or Trenholm State Community College, in good academic standing (2.7 gpa or higher)
- Accepted majors: Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Health Education, Gender Studies, Marketing/Public Relations or similar
- Have outgoing personality, exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to network and be comfortable speaking to large or small groups on sexual health topics
- Must be comfortable providing and promoting condom education and distribution.
