Position Summary:
The CRNP will provide comprehensive sexual health screening, evaluation, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STls), PrEP consultations and monitoring, and limited primary care services. This role involves developing interventions for at-risk individuals using clinical decision-making skills to promote positive health outcomes. The CRNP is expected to stay up to date with current HIV, Hep C, PrEP, PEP, and STI/STD guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with patients in a timely manner to complete intake, sexual history, provide testing, conduct PrEP evaluations and monitoring, and offer appropriate treatment and education in line with nationally and locally recognized recommendations.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Director, Collaborating Physician and local ADPH Disease Intervention Specialists, consulting with and reporting HIV, Hep C, PrEP, PEP, and STI/ STD infections as required.
- Coordinate and obtain necessary services for patients by working closely with clinical staff members.
- Document all findings in the EMR within the timeframe set by FHHS policy, maintaining all appropriate documentation and requirements as outlined in the Nurse Practitioner collaborative agreement.
- Assist with developing patient-specific interventions for risk reduction behaviors in conjunction with provider staff and the Clinical Director.
- Refer clients to other community service providers and specialist as appropriate.
- Review lab results, ensure treatment completion, and contact patients with results in a timely manner.
- Ensure that treatment orders are carried out effectively.
- Assist in developing healthcare protocols, procedures, and standing orders to standardize and improve care in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
- Educate staff, patients, and the community on sexually transmitted infections, treatment options, and interventions.
- Stay current with guidelines and recommendations regarding HIV, Hep C, PrEP, PEP, and STls as provided by the CDC.
- Use and disclose patient protected health information in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Adhere to all Five Horizons Health Services policies and procedures.
- Practice according to current recommendations from the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control.
- Carry out duties as assigned by the Chief Healthcare Officer, Chief Clinical Officer and Clinical Director.
- Collaborate with the physician to comply with the Alabama Board of Nursing Collaborative Practice Agreement and Alabama Board of Medical Examiners requirements, including QA recordkeeping.
- Provide telemedicine services as needed.
- Maintain an active nursing license and complete continuing education as required by state licensing standards.
- Attend management and staff meetings as assigned.
- Engage in on-site and off-site training as needed.
- Meet with pharmaceutical vendors as required.
- Precept nursing and medical students as needed.
- Consult with the Clinical Director regarding any employee issues, as needed, prior to disciplinary actions in accordance with FHHS policies.
- Make policy recommendations for the creation of new policies or changes to existing policies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of clinical services.
- Complete HIV training to incorporate HIV treatment and care into position duties.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Healthcare Officer, Chief Clinical Officer and Clinical Director.
Education & Experience:
- Degree from an accredited school of nursing
- License to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) in the State of Alabama
- At least 2 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Timely completion of continuing education necessary for state licensure
- Current CPR certification
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Master's degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited institution.
- Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner
- Unencumbered state licensure.
- Knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases, transmission, and treatment.
- Ability to treat patients in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
- Proficiency in using computer programs/software, including but not limited to EMR, Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry developments.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, patients, and family members from diverse backgrounds, including engaging with People Living with HIV (PLWH) and the LGBTQIA community.
