Position Description
Designs and oversees new construction and renovations, leads the development and management of Five Rivers MetroParks' landscape architectural design standards, provides design expertise to leadership and staff, manages consultants and contractors throughout project phases, and supervises landscape architect staff.
Duties / Responsibilities

Manages and coordinates the design process and production of construction documentation to meet project goals. Adheres to project budgets and schedules. Provides expertise in landscape architectural design to agency leadership and staff.Develops and maintains design and construction documentation policies, procedures, and standards, including the agency Design Guidelines, upholding the agency's conservation mission. Ensures quality control in all aspects of design and construction documentation.Solicits for, selects, and manages design consultants to perform design, engineering, and construction documentation. Implements and administers consultant contracts, manages project budgets, and manages consultant performance including adherence to project schedule, budget, and goals.Maintains and updates the Planning Public Participation Plan (PPP). Ensures robust public participation in the design of projects and supports public participation throughout the work group.Working with the Construction Manager and staff, reviews contract documents prior to bidding to assess value engineering and constructability. Ensures designs and specifications enhance various natural ecologies, habitats, and systems and are compatible with MetroParks' natural resources and sustainability plans.Manages, develops and leads cross-departmental teams in the development of designs. Maintains open and regular communications and public-facing managers and staff to ensure they are well-equipped to respond to design efforts and that design efforts consider the ongoing operational needs of the agency. Maintains communication with agency leadership on the progress and impact of various projects.Ensures execution of the design process. Prepares analyses, maps, diagrams, illustrations and exhibits through geographic information systems (GIS) and other methods.Collaborates with the Philanthropy Department to pursue and obtain alternate funding for projects. In the execution of projects, ensures the requirements of alternative funding sources are met.Estimates costs for projects for bidding, the annual capital budget, and the capital improvement plan. Collaborates with staff, prioritizes, and makes recommendations of projects to be included in the capital budget and the capital improvement plan.When assigned, leads and executes the bidding, and construction phases of development projects adhering to FRMP design procedures and guidelines. Manages the contract and contractor performance by monitoring adherence to the contract, quality control, and budget, and schedule.Provides support to field staff and ensures adequate design and engineering in the execution of in-house construction.Maintains records, reports, and documentation related to planning, design, and construction and other projects. Maintains up to date project files in accordance with the Planning filing system.Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance; works outside of normal schedule as required.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESMonitors relevant trends.Provides service to the public, responds to questions by helping and providing information.Collaborates internally, within and across departmental boundaries, to provide information and service to others in the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the agency and all staff.Make presentations to the public, civic groups, and other organizations to provide information about FRMP.Assists in the preparation of the annual Planning budget. Executes the Planning group's operational budget in collaboration with the Planning team to ensure fiscal responsibility.Performs other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESManages supervisory responsibilities in accordance with FRMP policies and applicable laws and assigned authority.Responsibilities include participating in, and making recommendations pertaining to the selection, performance monitoring, discipline, and other personnel decisions.Plans and delegates work assignments, trains employees, provides guidance, resolves work issues, and ensures work complies with policy and performance standards.Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A combination of appropriate education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is :
Bachelor's degree in park planning, landscape architecture, or related field, and five years' experience in park planning, landscape architecture, capital project development, or closely related field.Experience in supervision of staff.Licensed Landscape Architect.Valid Ohio Driver's License which meets FRMPs insurance carrier guidelines.
