What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Architect position at Five Rivers MetroParks?
The Landscape Architect (LA) prepares park, facility, and trail plans, designs, and construction documents for Five Rivers MetroParks (FRMP). The LA also manages consultants in the planning and engineering of parks, facilities, and trails and manages and administers minor construction projects.

- Plans and designs improvement and renovation projects in conformance with FRMP Planning and Design Guidelines; communicates with internal and external stakeholders; prepares cost estimates and construction documents.
- Manages planning and design projects prepared by engineering and architectural consultants; oversees the contract; ensures project goals are met; approves invoices.
- Develops bid or quote documents, manages bid process, evaluates bids and quotes, and prepares contracts for assigned construction projects,.
- Manages contractor performance by monitoring adherence to plans and specifications, quality control, budget adherence, and schedule performance.
- Assists in the preparation of long-range development plans and park master plans.
- Develops plans and designs that are environmentally sensitive and sustainable and compatible with MetroParks' natural resource plans.
- Facilitates input for planning and design projects from the public and staff and to communicate with staff and the public about the progress of various projects.
- Monitors planning, engineering, and construction processes to ensure quality control, adherence to schedule and budget, and compliance with plans and specifications.
- Communicates with MetroParks staff to gain input on designs, ensure plans meet the needs of the agency, and inform regarding the status of projects.
- Develops and supports effective communications and relations with agency personnel and public agencies, municipalities, and the general public regarding project assignments.
- Maintains records, reports, and documentation related to planning, development, and construction projects.
- Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance; works outside of normal schedule as required.
- Provides service to the public by responding to questions, helping, and providing information.
- Collaborates across functional areas, to provide information to support the effective operation of the agency.
- Conducts presentations to the public, civic groups, and other organizations to provide information about MetroParks, its facilities and its services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture or related field, with three years of experience in park planning, landscape architecture, capital project development, or closely related field is required.
- A Landscape Architect license is required.
