What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Recreation Specialist position at Five Rivers MetroParks?

Supports research, development, and implementation of outdoor recreation programs, events and serves as lead or supports instructor where applicable, including in person and virtual programming.
Supports the planning and facilitation of programs with the public under supervision of a Coordinator, including risk management
Supports Coordinator in working with partners, contract instructors and service providers and volunteers to facilitate programs, activities, and events; assists Volunteer Coordinator at assigned sites as needed.
Procures, inventories, checks in and out, repairs and maintains program and event equipment.
Provides administrative support.
Assists with program reports, grant reporting and cost of service reports.
Serves on agency initiatives and projects working with various MetroParks’ department employees.
Participates in MetroParks-wide programming as needed.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance, and works outside of normal schedule as required.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports development and implementation of events including exhibitor relations, managing volunteers, communications with partners and sponsors, media relations and other related event responsibilities.
Supports marketing and promotional efforts for programming, special events and facilities, i.e., social media, e-mail marketing, print materials, etc.
Provides service to the public, responding to questions, helping, supporting programs/events, and providing information.
Works with supervisors to coordinate fleet management responsibilities.
Supports the development of Speaker Bureau and outreach programs for schools and other groups.
Supports coordination of programming, activities and events with park and facility operations staff.
Collaborates internally, within and across departmental boundaries, to provide information and service to others in the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the agency and all staff.
Attends professional development and training opportunities. Maintains required certifications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A combination of appropriate education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
Associate’s degree in outdoor recreation management or closely related field and one year experience in outdoor recreation programming. Willingness and ability to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Personal experience with one or more outdoor adventure and nature program activities such as: kayaking/canoeing/Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), road and /or mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, outdoor foundation skills including camping, wilderness medicine, fishing, map and compass navigation, trip planning, leadership, natural interpretation is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Drivers' License which meets Five Rivers MetroParks' insurance carrier guidelines.
Wilderness First Aid certification acquired within one year of employment.
Specialized outdoor recreation certifications as needed.
