Job Title: Barn Assistant
Reports To: Barn Manager, and Program & Summit Camp Director
Job Summary: Assist in the facilitation, leading, and development equine programming and animal care at Summit. Works directly with students often. Works directly with horses and other animals often. Must have prior animal-care experience. Must be knowledgeable about Five Star Life programs, practices and procedures. Must embody all Five Star Life Core Values (respect, responsibility, integrity, sacrifice, courage) in and outside of the workplace.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Equine Animal and Facility Care
- Feed and fill water for horses
- Lead horses to and from barn/pastures
- Clean stalls and common barn areas
- Care for other farm animal needs and issues
- Assist in behind the scenes prep work and projects
- Check all areas of the barn and equine grounds regularly for issues. Report any issues
- Keep the equine grounds in excellent condition, always tour-ready
- Track scheduled Summit tours and ensure that the barn and equine grounds are prepped and ready for high-level tours at those times
2. Program Implementation
- Lead and/or support the teaching of equine programs
- Connect with students and coach them to live their best life
- Complete ALL Necessary FSL Training
- Be at check-in ready to start ON TIME (recommend arriving 10- 15 mins. prior to start time)
- Manage and lead the set up responsibilities and tasks in the barn prior to programming and based on the programming plans for each day
- Ensure all necessary materials are set up at station
- Implement Five Star Life curriculum as a curriculum teacher, and ensure that those values and lessons are tied in and taught through every equine program Keep campus “Tour Ready” during programming
- Clean and close out barn and classroom space after programming
- Measure, collect, and report data and metrics
3. Miscellaneous Tasks as Determined by Supervisor(s)
- Service Projects
- Five Star Life Staff Curriculum Participation
- Five Star Life Staff workdays
- Etc.

- Adept at task management and comfortable with shifts and changes in direction
- Effective communication via text, email, face-to-face, and in team/group settings
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, work on ladders, and lift 50lbs
- Reliable transportation between properties - which include the Five Star Life Office (Elkhart, IN) and Summit Commercial Areas (Union, MI)

Compensation: $11-15/hr. starting pay
Job Location: Summit Camp / 14260 US Highway 12 / Union, MI 49130
Required Availability:
- Full-Time (30-40 hours per week); Varying Schedule (Days needed may change)
- Part-Time (15-30 hours per week); Varying Schedule (Days needed may change)
