The College
Founded in 1972, Five Towns College is a private, coeducational, non-sectarian institution of higher education. Located on a beautiful suburban campus in the hamlet of Dix Hills, Town of Huntington, Long Island, NY, the College is a creative community of artists and scholars who serve the cause of music, media, and the performing arts.
The College offers associate, bachelor, masters, and doctoral programs in nearly 30 areas of study. The most popular programs include contemporary music and music technology, music business/entertainment industry studies, film, mass communication and media studies, and theater arts. Programs of study follow a traditional semester calendar, with two summer sessions. The College delivers classes in traditional, hybrid/blended, and fully online formats.
Five Towns College holds an Absolute Charter issued by the New York State Board of Regents, and its programs of study are registered with the New York State Education Department. The College is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Its programs leading to teacher certification are also accredited by NCATE/CAEP, Music programs are accredited by NASM, and the Theatre program by NAST. Approximately 600 students are enrolled at the College, nearly all of whom pursue their program of study on a full-time basis. Approximately 200 students reside on campus in a modern Living/Learning Center.
The Position
The Residence Hall Area Director (AD) is responsible for helping facilitate a safe, comfortable, fun, inclusive and positive community in the residence halls so students may achieve their academic and personal goals. This position is a 12-month, full-time live-in position. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall administration and operation of assigned residence halls, including, but not limited to training and supervising student staff, coordination of programming, community development, student conduct, assisting with summer conference housing, working on departmental committees and special assignments, helping and participating in college functions and committees.
The AD maintains a regular office hour schedule while serving on a night-time and weekend duty rotation. Need to be able to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Residence Life experience as an RA or RD
- Experience planning and implementing student programs and activities
- Ability to communicate effectively within a diverse campus community
- An interest in participating in student-centered service activities
- Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously
- Strong organizational and customer service skills
- Creative, innovative, and strong problem-solving skills
- Experience with conflict resolution
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience coordinating or participating in student conduct hearings.
· Experience with emergency response, crisis management, or student care follow up.
· Experience managing keys, room changes and/or other housing operations tasks.
· Experience with community building and/or community development initiatives.
