Fives Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Scope of Work & Responsibility
The Mechanical Design Engineer with minimal direction designs assigned product & systems within budgeted scope, cost and timing. Including optimizing and standardizing for the purposes of developing, estimating, quoting, and purchasing materials for use with general industrial, metal sheet handling & powertrain automation via internal engineering, outsourcing to/from inter-company entities or third-party suppliers. May with support, mentor and lead more junior level employees including checking others work (low-mid complexity).

Including optimizing and standardizing for the purposes of developing, estimating, quoting, and purchasing materials for use with general industrial, metal sheet handling & powertrain automation via internal engineering, outsourcing to/from inter-company entities or third-party suppliers. May with support, mentor and lead more junior level employees including checking others work (low-mid complexity).
Essential Duties
- Designs, develops, or modifies a full range of mechanical products & systems, applying engineering principles within budgeted timing requirements, records time on project.
- Review's specifications and other data to develop mechanical layouts, utilizing knowledge of mechanical parts as well as computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Understanding and application of the manufacturing process.
- Provide design support on system start-ups, troubleshooting, customer acceptance, installations, and project close out as assigned.
- Work with project management to fully understand project requirements, develop cost effective and innovative solutions and work through any design concerns or missing information
- Responsible for planning and implementing all internal design reviews, external customer design reviews and project handover to manufacturing.
- Understand and apply GD&T to drawing package as required by technical specifications and/or project requirements.
- Oversee design, detail, bills of materials, design reviews and check of all aspects of the mechanical design packages
- Understands and follows both Company & OEM employee/supplier, compliance, confidentiality, and safety regulations/policies, and identifies and communicate any concerns.
- Adhere to all GUS policies and procedures including safety & safe work practices
- Support ISO & Lean practices and concepts
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Technology, or Mechatronics, and 3 years of related design experience
- 10 years of industry related experience or equivalent combination of education & experience
- Experienced in PDM/PLM systems,
- Experienced in solid based CAD Systems (Solidworks), or related Software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite,
- Experienced in machine building
- 3 years of automation related experience.
- Ability to write reports, proposals, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Servo Soft Application Sizing Software.
- Ability to assist with FEA analyses/study & calculations.
- Knowledge and understanding of: Pneumatic / Lubrication Drawings / Schematics (North American & European Standards)
