This position is responsible to design, layout, alter and fabricate special sheet metal guards, troughs and chutes that may or may not have engineering drawings, as well as any other sheet metal work required within the department. Work independently on duties and tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity. This is the highest level position in this area.

This position is responsible to design, layout, alter and fabricate special sheet metal guards, troughs and chutes that may or may not have engineering drawings, as well as any other sheet metal work required within the department. Work independently on duties and tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity. This is the highest level position in this area.
Scope and Responsibilities:
Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Proactively attains a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
- Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to product being fabricated and knowledge of metal.
- Set up and program from shop floor orders that do not have programs provided on NC and/or CNC fabrication equipment.
- Locate and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheet based on job order or blueprint.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment (e.g. shears, punch and drill presses & deburr bench) to cut, bend, or straighten sheet metal.
- Shape metal over anvil, blocks or forms.
- Smooth seams, joints or burrs surfaces using files, portable grinders or buffers.
- Inspect assemblies according to blueprint specifications for compliance to requirements. Report any non-conformances to supervision.
- Resolve issues and problems, referring only the most complex issues to supervision.
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals.
- Apply mastery of skills in adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment, as appropriate.
- Serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
- Assist in orienting, training, assigning and reviewing the work of less experienced employees.
- Maintain all company equipment this position uses.
- Ability to work overtime and/or work on "off-shifts" as required by business needs.
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or a minimum of five years prior related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- .Five years’ experience in a fast paced highly technical machinery manufacturing environment.
- Advanced Blueprint Reading
- Operate, maintain and able to train on the following equipment and instruments:
- Shear
- Punch Press
- Burr equipment
- Hand Grinders
- Protractors
- Combination Square
- Micrometers
- Advanced knowledge on various types of metals, various gauges of metal and on shaping methods
- Knowledgeable on sheet metal functions such as clearances, functions, appearances, fittings and contouring.
