We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team and uphold the quality and reputation of our golf course.
Job Overview: The Assistant Superintendent will support the Superintendent in the overall maintenance and management of the golf course. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality and playability of the course while managing daily operations, staff, and resources. The Assistant Superintendent will also help execute maintenance plans, improve turf conditions, and provide leadership to the maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities:
Course Maintenance and Management:
Assist in overseeing the daily maintenance and upkeep of the golf course, including greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and roughs.
Implement and monitor a comprehensive maintenance plan involving mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, aeration, and other necessary tasks.
Work with the Superintendent to monitor turf health, soil conditions, and overall playability, ensuring high-quality course conditions.
Support environmental sustainability practices and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
Staff Supervision and Management:
Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising maintenance staff, including equipment operators and laborers.
Help create and manage staff schedules to ensure efficient coverage and productivity across the course.
Participate in conducting performance evaluations, providing feedback, and offering development opportunities for team members.
Budget and Resource Management:
Assist the Superintendent in preparing and managing the annual maintenance budget, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
Help monitor inventory and ensure cost-effective use of supplies and equipment.
Support the maintenance and repair of course maintenance equipment as needed.
Course Improvement and Planning:
Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term improvement plans for the golf course.
Work with the Superintendent and the club’s leadership team to plan seasonal enhancements and special course projects.
Assist in overseeing the execution of renovation projects and course upgrades.
Member and Guest Relations:
Interact with members and guests, addressing any course-related issues or concerns as they arise.
Ensure high satisfaction levels with course conditions and respond promptly to feedback or complaints.
Compliance and Safety:
Assist in ensuring adherence to safety regulations and best practices to create a safe working environment for all staff.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including chemical applications, equipment usage, and staff hours.
Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or assistant role.
Certifications: GCSAA certification is preferred; pesticide applicator’s license required.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and golf course maintenance practices.
Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication skills and ability to professionally interact with staff and members.
Proficiency in using golf course management software and standard office applications.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment as needed.
