Position Summary
Assists Branch Manager and/or Assistant Library Director with professional and managerial duties in the operation of the branch, in cooperation with other professional staff; may serve as person in charge of branch in absence of the Branch Manager/Assistant Library Director. Performs professional librarian duties, which include public service, collection services, program development, training and direction to patrons, staff and volunteers; At times may be required to work at other location(s).
Essential Functions
- Actively participates in fulfilling system-wide goals and implementing policies.
- Participates in the selection and training of all subordinate and professional staff and evaluates their performance.
- May coordinate staff schedules and prepare payroll for the assigned service unit.
- Works effectively with Library Administration and all other supervisors.
- May resolve conflicts with patrons and the general public.
- May represent the library at meetings, conferences, presentations and workshops.
- Monitors physical maintenance and determines need for repairs and improvements of the assigned branch and notifies library administration.
- Prepares reports and publications.
- Coordinates and evaluates services provided to the public in a program area.
- Establishes goals and objectives in accordance with County Library system policy and based on community needs.
- In consultation with supervisor, selects, trains, supervises and evaluates staff and volunteers.
- May provide reader’s advisory assistance to all ages.
- May maintain financial records and operate a point of sales system.
- Encourages development of staff through reading, in-service training, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Implements County library system policies and procedures and explains such to employees and customers. May participate in policy revision and formulation.
- May oversee plans, promote and execute library classes, events and workshops.
- Assists other public service departments and fills in as needed and in the absence of the supervisor, Branch Manager or Assistant Library Director.
- Acts as a U.S. Department of State Passport Agent and processes passport applications in compliance with rules and regulations of the Federal Government.
- May participate in library-wide committees or projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- During emergencies, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a master’s degree in Library Science form an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university. Additional education in another field is a plus.
- Must have excellent computer and communication skills.
- A minimum of 3 years professional experience in a library.
- A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
