Position Summary
This is a technical position that is responsible for collecting and managing hazardous and special waste.
Essential Functions
- Receives household hazardous waste from public, makes waste determination, stores waste based on chemical compatibility or infectious nature.
- Ensures proper marking and labeling of bulk process waste.
- Recovers and bulk packages recyclable paint. Prepares recyclable items for shipping by packaging and labeling property. Inspects pesticide containers for recycling.
- Assists with coordination of solid waste programs such as mobile collection events and business hazardous waste collection events.
- Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
- Monitors and oversees hazardous waste transporter activities.
- Performs safety inspections of work site.
- Performs related work as required.
- During emergencies, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain Florida Department of Environmental Protection Waste Spotter certification and 24-hour OSHA certification within one year from date of hire.
- Must possess valid Florida driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County employees. Service is provided in person and by phone contact.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine and other general office equipment.
