Full time, Hourly, Non-exempt
This position is posted for hire in 2025. If hired in 2024, starting rate shall be $19.60 per hour, and shall increase to $19.85 in 2025.
Overview
The Lead Shelter Coordinator at Flagstaff Shelter Services (FSS) will ensure FSS policies and procedures are followed, shift and client reporting is accurate, clients are treated fairly, and all interactions with the public, clients and staff are courteous and professional. The Lead Coordinator will adhere to safety and supervise shelter participants and shelter property while promoting a low barrier-trauma informed approach. The Lead Coordinator will communicate all discrepancies immediately to the Shelter Manager.
Responsibilities
Lead the team by example demonstrating informed decision making, honesty, transparency, and appropriate rapport building with staff, clients, and all community partners.
Maintain a positive working relationship with coordinators, case managers, and on-site service providers to ensure continuity of care.
Responsible for attending team meetings and / or training.
Conduct regular team meetings with Coordinators to ensure consistency, addressing areas for improvement, and recognizing their contributions.
Always maintain a high level of professionalism, including but not limited to vendors, requests, and all community partners.
Maintain a quality crisis intervention and seek appropriate support to assist in difficult or emergency client situations.
Manage communication with the public service program and donors / volunteers as they arise.
Maintain confidentiality; that individual rights are protected, all services are confidential, and no information is shared without consent.
Maintain and monitor sanitary conditions, and report concerns as needed to Shelter Manager.
Become trained and skilled with the HMIS system (includes documentation, entries, training).
Ensure HMIS data quality control processes are complete and accurate.
Monitor all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance.
Communicate and coordinate assign team roles, when necessary.
Consult with the Shelter Manager as needed and as appropriate.
Communicate with the staff from the previous shift during shift change and summarize events to staff responsible for the next shift.
Responsible for reviewing and maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation : End of Shift reports, consequence list, incident reports, significant client interaction reports, significant event reports, and property walk sheets.
As requested, work weekends, additional shifts and holidays.
Perform all other duties as assigned aligned with program goals.
Qualifications :
Knowledge of the homelessness population, medically vulnerable individuals, substance abuse, domestic violence, addictions, criminal background, and individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge and understanding of Flagstaff Shelter Service resources, and ability to navigate community resources for clients.
Knowledge and skill to provide and model de-escalation and conflict mediation for shelter clients and staff.
Ability to intervene and appropriately de-escalate crisis situations while providing oversight and supervision so that a safe and healthy environment is always maintained.
Knowledge of operating basic computer software programs and systems.
Knowledge of strong work ethics in the workplace.
Knowledge of basic application of confidentiality.
Skills in active listening and critical thinking.
Skills in sound judgement and decision making.
Skills with strong written and verbal communication.
Ability to be dependable in attendance and job performance.
Ability to meet attendance, overtime (if necessary), and other reliable requirements of the job.
Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the organization.
High school education, GED, or the equivalent.
2 years of experience working in a human services field required or equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred.
CPR / First Aide Certification preferred.
Food Handlers Certification preferred.
Drivers License preferred.
Environment
Must be able to walk around the property.
Perform lifting (25 lbs. or more)
Work is performed in a shelter, office, and outdoor environment.
Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling may be required while performing job functions.
Shifts may require long periods of standing and walking.
There may be exposure to cleaning agents and allergens.
Employees may be subject to loud / frequent noise, disruptive behavior, or human crises involving substance abuse or mental health concerns.
