Position Overview
The Referrals Specialist position is responsible for providing phone and administrative support to the pertinent clinic.
- Incoming Referrals: receive, create chart, verify patient demographics, call to schedule
- Insurance: verify insurance eligibility and benefits, verify if a referral is required, note billing alerts with pertinent information
- Phones: answer incoming calls, check voicemails daily, return clinic voicemails in a timely manner, take patient messages
- Faxes: check faxes in the morning and forward to appropriate chart or employee for review
- Chart Prep: prep charts for assigned providers at least a week out. Check daily for add-ons, note chart with billing alerts, reschedule, if necessary, notify back office, and verify insurance, update demographics.
- Ensure all patient records are accurate, complete, compliant, and current.
- Additional tasks may be added as needed and assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of insurances and medical terminology
- Strong communication skills for interaction with physicians, staff, and patients
- Ability to write business and patient correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients
- Ability to follow direction
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, e-mail systems, EHR and other web-based programs
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
