Position Summary
The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading environmental compliance programs, sustainability initiatives, and risk management efforts across manufacturing operations. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations while implementing strategies for waste reduction, resource conservation, and pollution prevention. The Environmental Manager partners with corporate and plant leadership to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance while supporting health and safety functions.
Essential Functions
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all environmental regulations.
- Maintain and manage permits, inspections, and reporting related to air quality, water discharge, hazardous materials, and waste management.
- Lead environmental audits, identify compliance risks, and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and manage compliance documentation.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) program and ensure proper chemical handling procedures.
- Sustainability & Environmental Initiatives
- Develop and oversee sustainability programs focused on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and carbon footprint reduction.
- Collaborate with corporate teams to implement green manufacturing initiatives.
- Track environmental performance metrics and recommend process improvements to align with sustainability goals.
- Risk Management & Incident Investigations
- Lead investigations for environmental spills, non-compliance incidents, and workplace hazards.
- Identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
- Maintain emergency response plans for hazardous materials and environmental risks.
- Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop and conduct environmental training programs to ensure awareness and compliance with environmental policies.
- Promote a culture of environmental responsibility, engaging employees in sustainability and compliance initiatives.
- Capital Projects & Budget Management
- Assist in securing capital investments for environmental improvements, including wastewater treatment systems, emissions controls, and energy-efficient equipment.
- Provide budget recommendations for environmental projects and ensure cost-effective compliance efforts.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education/Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Health & Safety, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years in environmental management, EHS compliance, or regulatory affairs within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of EPA, OSHA, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 regulations.
- Experience in wastewater treatment systems, hazardous materials handling, and sustainability initiatives preferred.
- Certifications such as CSP, CHMM, CPEA, or CIH are a plus.
- Strong project management, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and environmental reporting systems.
- Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to think critically.
- Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
