POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Wellness Coach, in harmony with the Mission and Christian nature of the YMCA, as well as the established goals and objectives of the YMCA, shall be responsible for providing a safe and effective fitness experience for all wellness center users. In general, the role of the Wellness Coach is to build relationships with and between staff members, volunteers, members, program participants and the communities the YMCA serves.
Specifically, the Wellness Coach will provide orientations to the Wellness Center facility to members and guests, help members build effective fitness programs, ensure proper use of equipment, and work with members one-on-one.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Meet and greet all volunteers, staff, members, program participants, etc. every day with a smile and hello.
2. Communicate effectively with staff members, volunteers, and members.
3. Provide excellent customer service to members and participants.
4. Provide member orientations to facility and equipment.
5. Be aware of lifting techniques and safety issues while being able to spot as needed.
6. Safely spot individuals using free weights.
7. Explain effective cardio, strength, and flexibility programs.
8. Enforce Wellness Center policies and regulations.
9. Understand the relationship between providing Wellness Center Orientations and Personal Training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Wellness Coach in general requires excellent communication skills, excellent relationship building skills, the ability to model the YMCA Core Values and have the ability and desire to make a personal connection with the communities the YMCA serves.
Specifically, a degree or background in recreation, fitness, physical education, or related field is highly recommended, along with an understanding of the basics of strength, cardiovascular, flexibility and personal training. This person must also possess a high level of maturity, enthusiasm, and self-direction. Some computer skills are recommended, and CPR and First Aid certification required.

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including demonstrating equipment, walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting techniques and spotting skills.
