Senior Director of Product Innovation (Beauty, CPG, Fragrance)
The Senior Director of Product Innovation will lead all aspects of the product formulation and process development from ideation through commercialization across the Flamingo Estate business. The position will work in partnership with the Founder, as well as the Interim Head of Packaging & Product to drive product innovation, adhering to the regenerative ethos and vision of the brand. You will work across all categories including but not limited to candles, skincare, bath & body, pantry, and home, ensuring improved and cost-optimized formulations are poised for growth and international compliance. You possess impeccable taste, passion for all that is delicious and beautiful, with strong project management agility. You are a leader who will champion innovation from concept through commercialization. You will work closely with our Founder, as well as in house manufacturing, sourcing, supply chain, finance, and marketing teams to ensure smooth communication and product education.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership vigilance across the product portfolio and roadmap, identifying risk as well as opportunities for portfolio optimization which improve consumer experience, enhance margins, and support the company’s strategic objectives.
- Display a deep understanding of the consumer and drive a consumer first mentality to ensure proper planning for limited drops (such as seasonal newness, members gifts, and collaborations) in addition to the core product assortment.
- Create concept briefs and manage submissions with suppliers, summarizing and cataloging feedback.
- Oversee new product launch proposals, the formalized stage gate process where all product details are captured for approval prior to passing over to supply chain.
- Oversee all product copy is accurate and approved for creative as well as regulatory.
- Lead product education internally and externally (i.e. key retailers and sales team as needed).
- Guide customer service communication regarding product inquiries.
- Guide QA / regulatory compliance manager, project manager and external partners to ensure all products are properly tested and packaging iterations as needed.
- Act as the central point of contact for the development of new products from concept to commercialization and reformulations of existing products as needed.
- Partner with supply chain to identify and vet suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure new products meet all product critical attributes and timelines.
- Align PD work efforts around the organizational strategic initiatives – regenerative work, partnerships, and more.
- Develop internal product development workflow, capabilities and processes that drive efficiency and improves speed to market.
- Provide technical leadership on the scale-up, technical transfer, process development of new and existing products and oversee the seamless commercialization of new products with our co-Manufacturing partners.
- Effectively troubleshoot formulation & technical challenges in collaboration with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- In collaboration with Quality and Operations, ensure the sourcing and qualification of new raw materials, highlighting supply chain and cost implications as appropriate and collaborating with cross functional partners to resolve.
- Ensure supply chain continuity by effectively managing material substitutions, quality issues and / or product disruptions.
- Develop and manage a sensory program for organoleptic evaluations, ensuring proper documentation.
- Ensure well-organized documentation of all product development related activities.
- Have pulse on trends for category landscape across prestige beauty, home goods, specialty foods, across product and ingredients, bringing insights to the organization for seasonal and core product considerations.
- Partner with creative team on packaging concepts.
- Support other areas of the business as needed for pop-ups, newness, philanthropic initiatives, and more.
