We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Functional Safety Engineer to join our Carmel, Indiana team specializing in Autonomous Solutions within the mining and heavy industry sector. You will be responsible for ensuring the products delivered by our team are at as low a risk level as reasonably practicable (ALARP) and compliant with the applicable local and international safety regulations and standards. In this role you will also coordinate effective investigations into incidents on machines supported in the field by FLANDERS.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates risk assessment workshops for new Flanders products, updates to Flanders products, and works with clients on risk assessments required by management-of-change protocols
- Define the functional requirements pertaining to the autonomous solution products’ safety and ensure they are submitted into the product’s validation checklists
- Define controls that need to be in place to ensure that the product is at as low a risk profile as reasonably practicable
- Audits Flanders’ automation products as per required schedules against the relevant international standards
- Recommends improvements to Flanders’ safety management system, including its management of change component
- Reviews completed risk assessments, audits actions and functional requirements resulting from previous risk assessments
- Lead the Incident Investigation process to ensure that it is followed and update the functional safety validation accordingly
- Where necessary, drive the execution of safety bulletins
- Sign off that actions generated from risk assessments or incident investigations have been validated as safe
