General Statement: Teach Summer Camps and other School and Youth programs and assist with developing curriculum for these programs. Position reports to Youth Engagement Manager and School Programs Manager. This is a seasonal position supporting our Summer 2025 Educational Programs.
Position Duration: April 21, 2025, to August 12, 2025
Summer Staffing Hours: 20-40 Hours will vary by week
Summer Camp Training Meeting: May 16 (evening) to May 17 (morning)
Spring Hours: 20-25 Hours
Summer Camp Dates: June 2, 2025, to August 8, 2025.
Reports to: Education Manager
Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:
- Provide exemplary customer service: handle questions, comments and/or complaints regarding education programs and events professionally and tactfully.
- Assist in creation, planning and implementation of Education and Camp programming. This may include curriculum writing as needed.
- Teach education programs and Summer Camp onsite and offsite, and other School and Youth programs as needed. Contribute to planning and implementation of the daily program.
- Assist with drop-off, pick-up and lunch times for camps and school programs.
- Coordinate activity schedule, field trips and supplies for camps and school programs.
- Represent oneself and the Museum in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
- Attend employee training program and other trainings and meetings as directed.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Educators or Education Coordinators.

Tools and equipment used to perform this position: computers, printers, fax machines, copy machines, basic classroom equipment, outreach equipment.
Physical Requirements of this Position:
Light Work: Position involves sitting, standing, and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
Qualifications
Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:
- Some college education is required, bachelor’s degree in education or science preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid Driver's License with current insurance, and be willing to drive Fleet vehicles.
- Experience teaching/leading school-aged children in hands-on activities and youth supervisory experience a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in effectively communicating with large groups and directing both students and adults, whether through verbal communication in person, over the phone, or in written form.
- Must meet the minimum qualifications set by San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) to serve as a Classroom Assistant or Instructional Aide. Must possess a high school diploma AND
- Have an AA/AS degree or higher OR
- Have completed at least 48 units of college credit OR
- Pass the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) - If you do not meet the other requirements, SDUSD is offering the CAPE test online at no cost to interested candidates.
Upon hire the Fleet will have candidates undergo:
- Tuberculosis Testing
- Fingerprint clearance from DOJ/FBI required
