JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Media Specialist
Responsible To: Principal
Basic Function: Provide each student with an enriched environment containing a
wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual
growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take
full advantage of library media sources.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Plan, evaluate, and restructure the library program to reflect the emerging needs of the library media center.
- Foster a pleasant, informal, attractive, and inviting atmosphere.
- Evaluate, select, and requisition new library materials and equipment.
- Assist teachers in the selection of instructional materials.
- Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
- Collaborate with teachers in planning assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
- Present and discuss materials with classes studying a particular topic, on the request of the teacher.
- Provide orientation for new faculty and students.
- Prepare and administer a budget to reflect the needs of the library.
- Discard obsolete print and audiovisual materials.
- Provide instruction to faculty and students in use of hardware and software.
- Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
- Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
- Serve as liaison contact with the staff of the public library to implement program of community and school library cooperation.
- Conduct inventory and prepares annual report.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements by attending seminars, workshops,etc., for up-to-date training.
- Use a variety of equipment effectively.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
- Adhere to professional Codes of Ethics adopted by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Kentucky certification for Media Specialist
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.
Evaluation:
Performance of will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
