The Role:
To assist the classroom teacher in implementing a curriculum based on children's individual developmental needs in the context of a classroom community of learners. Specifically, the instructional aide will work as an assistant teacher under the direction of the classroom teacher and principal. The aide will assist the classroom teacher with planning, developing and providing a creative learning environment focused on high academic achievement, excellence in teaching, respect for differences and collaborative relationships. They will assist the teacher in providing daily activities that integrate learning across the curriculum. They will work with pupils individually and in small group activities. In addition, the instructional aide will assist in the documentation of pupil progress, making/preparing instructional materials and perform other duties as designated by the classroom teacher and principal. The aide will also assist teacher with recess supervision.
Your Skill Set:
Associates degree, or 48 college credits. Bachelor's degree preferred. Previous coursework in the education of elementary grade children preferred. Previous successful classroom experience with students in an urban, multicultural setting, preferably at the elementary level. Demonstrated ability to respect diversity and help children develop a positive self-image as successful learners.
Salary:
In accordance with the Cambridge Education Association Unit E Salary Schedule.
