Summary
The Forklift Truck Mechanic will performing routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on forklift trucks, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, replacing worn parts, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of forklift equipment within a warehouse or industrial setting. Often requiring knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical circuits, and engine mechanics to troubleshoot and fix issues effectively; including tasks like fluid level checks, filter replacements, brake adjustments, and maintaining detailed repair records.

Flex-N-Gate Training Requirements
Inspects forklift truck fleet to ensure trucks are working properly and safely.
Identifies any forklift trucks that need repairs.
Removes unsafe equipment from facility operating area and notifies supervisor.
Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane powered.
Tests forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
Schedules and performs routine maintenance for forklift trucks.
Ensures batteries for electric forklift trucks are fully charged.
Replaces empty propane tanks on propane-powered forklift trucks.
Maintains repair log for forklift truck fleet.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Ability to use hand and power tools to repair forklift trucks.
Ability to read repair manuals for various types of forklift trucks.
Excellent mechanical repair skills.
Ability to follow instructions.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
Community College in a related field
Five years in a mechanical / electrical capacity as a tradesman
Five years related industrial repair / maintenance experience.
Highly motivated; able to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and / or in writing.
Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
Ability to independently seek out and suggest downtime reduction activities and projects.
Exhibit responsibility, flexibility and dependability.
Ability to perform small repairs (e.g. caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures).
Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Ability to interpret and implement Company policies and procedures.
Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
Able to communicate effectively in both verbally and in writing.
Strong attention to detail.
Working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email, CAD, electrical control and PLC software is an asset.
Proven ability to troubleshoot.
Possess ISO TS14001 knowledge.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Work Conditions
24 hour / 7 day per week availability may be required
Physical ability to lift up to 75lb
Travel to the site, and off-site locations, as required
Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses, harness, etc
