Description:
The Controls Engineer will serve as an automation & assembly specialist, overseeing the design, construction, & implementation of assembly equipment control systems and standards. They are tasked with leading activities concerned with the development & implementation of assembly equipment control systems and standards to fulfill the production requirements for new programs and product launches.
Responsibilities:
- Lead & coordinate planning/implementation of assembly equipment control systems/standards, ensuring compliance
- Reviews & assists in assembly tooling vendors’ proposed designs to ensure compliance with specifications and codes
- Prepare specifications for purchase of materials & equipment (including cost estimates & equipment layout)
- Assist in the creation, modification & testing of products/processes
- Assist in interpreting engineering drawings for production personnel
- Assist in the development, evaluation, improvement & documentation of manufacturing processes
- Assist in the development/implementation of process control techniques & procedures
- Assist in the creation/review of FMEAs & Control Plans
- Perform root cause & failure analysis as required
- Provide expertise & guidance in identification, analysis & resolution of problems
- Inspect products/processes to identify areas of improvement
- Operate computer assisted engineering & design software
- Create technical reports, documentation, calculations & sketches
- Assist with troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment
- Other duties as necessary

Qualifications:
- Must have either a University Degree in Engineering Technology OR 10 yrs. Experience in the controls field w/ hardware & software design
- Must have at least 5 yrs. of Relevant Experience within the Automotive Manufacturing Industry
- Strong working knowledge of Process Flow, Control Plan, PFMEA, Statistical Process, & Machine Controls
- Demonstrated understanding of PLC automation programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Modicon, Omron, etc.)
- Knowledge of CAD & Strong Knowledge of ISO 14001/ TS 16949
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, & principals involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, & models
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, & other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing/distribution of goods
- Ability to analyze information & evaluate results to problem solve & chose best solutions
- Ability to analyze data & create technical documents
- Ability to use common hand tools & power tools
- Proficient in work processing, spreadsheets, presentation software & other database functions (i.e., reporting & analysis)
- Proven time management & project management skills w/ strong organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong troubleshooting & problem resolution skills
- Able to work independently, multi-task & prioritize
- Must be willing to relocate to Troy, MI for opportunity (*relocation package provided)
- Must be able to travel to Canada /Mexico/FNG Plants during launch phases
