Job Summary

The Operations Manager will use lean principles to lead the production team in the safe, high quality, on time, and efficient converting of premade flexible packaging solutions for a multitude of consumer packaged goods.

Essential Functions:


  • Team Management
    • Directly manage all production personnel including Production Supervisors and Machine Group Leads across 3 shifts.
    • Responsible for coordinating janitor/cleaning staff for the plant.
  • On Time Delivery
    • Collaborate with the Plant Manager to plan staffing levels, drive effective training, and evaluate workload and forecasts to ensure we are staffed to meet our customer’s needs.
    • Work with the Scheduler daily to adjust and plan the daily schedule to meet our customers’ needs as fully as possible, while prioritizing by the current and future value each customer brings into our organization.
    • Escalate to the supply chain management team to quickly resolve any disruptions in our consumable parts supply that may impact our ability to deliver on time to our customers.
    • Collaborate with the Product Development team to ensure all new jobs and trials are well planned out and supported, with immediate communication to the customer if problems arise.
  • Efficient Production
    • Own the leadership of all lean daily management and production meetings, empowering and coaching the Production Supervisors in running effective meetings.
    • Help the 1st shift Production Supervisor in performing hands on direct support of production floor and machines, assisting with day-to-day performance and problem solving while learning and gaining insight into how to improve the processes the operators perform.
    • Be the first escalation point for the 1st shift Production Supervisor for any issues with production or personnel.
    • Develop and maintain a collaborative work environment, encourage & empower team members at every level in the organization to improve every day.
    • Hold the supervisors and production team accountable to all company safety, quality, and production policies, as well as developing and enforcing standard operating procedures.
    • Coordinate production goal setting daily, ensuring goals are accurate, achievable, and highly visible, as well as identifying improvements to attain higher rates.
    • Communicate to the sales team any issues with quoted assumptions vs. production realities that prevent us from being profitable on jobs.
    • Participate in the overall continuous improvement team and initiatives for the plant, leading breakout teams for VSM, Kaizen, 5s, etc. as needed.
    • Own maintaining L1, L2, L3 Lean Daily Management board KPI content, through empowering production & support team members to maintaining specific data.
    • Help support all regulatory compliance and auditing processes led by the quality team.
    • Communicate & drive daily customer special needs & requests, working with the customer service team to make sure our customers understand the time and costs implications of non-standard processes they require, then meeting or exceeding their needs.
    • Support customer reporting needs and investigation requests for quality or waste concerns.
  • Quality:
    • Drive continous improvement of the production team to minimize customer complaints, non-conforming product, and waste.
    • Oversee the training process for the production team keeping reasonable training timelines balanced with low quality risk for new team members.
    • Optimize workflows to ensure defects are communicated effectively internally and to our customers, so they are resolved with minimal customer complaints and rework with as little impact as possible to the schedule and production output.
  • Safety:
    • Ensure the safety of the production team each day.
    • Participate in safety committee and help drive safety improvement projects to ensure a safe working environment for the production team.
  • General:
    • Support ERP and data systems integration and maintenance, backing up the Plant Manager on all IT and data systems support in conjunction with our outsourced IT support partner.
    • Partner with other Flex Pack plants in technical teams to standardize and implement best practices for safety, quality, waste, output, and profitability. Travel as needed to support and collaborate with other plants as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of operations management or production management experience.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles a must, green or black belt certification preferred.
  • Flexible packaging or flexographic printing experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams and people at all levels of an organization.
  • Knowledgeable in MS Office programs including Teams. Radius ERP and SQL database experience beneficial.
  • Experience with automation and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems a beneficial.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and dedication to quality/regulatory and continuous improvement.
  • Strict attention to detail.
  • Committed to operational excellence and leading others on team.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and collaboration skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish beneficial.
