Controls Engineer – Automation, Commissioning & Debugging
SCHEDULE: -Saginaw from ~March thru July, and @Customer (North Carolina) from ~August thru End of Year.
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our team, specializing in industrial automation, PLC programming, commissioning, and debugging. This role involves designing, developing, and troubleshooting control systems for a variety of automated manufacturing and industrial processes.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement PLC-based control systems for industrial automation.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and SCADA applications.
- Perform commissioning and debugging of automated systems on-site.
- Program and optimize robotic systems, motion controls, and servo drives.
- Conduct system integration, testing, and validation to ensure performance meets project requirements.
- Work with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts to support system development.
- Troubleshoot control circuits, sensors, and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to enhance system functionality.
- Provide technical support and documentation for installed systems.
- Travel to client sites for installation, commissioning, and support as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation.
- Proficiency in Allen-Bradley (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000), Siemens (TIA Portal), or Mitsubishi PLCs.
- Experience with SCADA systems, industrial networking, and communication protocols.
- Strong knowledge of servo motion control, VFDs, and robotics.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
- Experience with commissioning, debugging, and troubleshooting automated systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel for on-site commissioning and customer support.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with robot programming (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa).
- Knowledge of C , Python, or Ladder Logic for control system development.
- Familiarity with IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) and Industry 4.0 concepts.
- Understanding of safety standards (NFPA 79, ISO 13849, UL508A) for industrial automation.
