Controls Engineer - PLC / ROBOT
Reports to : Systems Manager
Job Summary :
The Controls Engineer is responsible for electrical hardware design and software engineering for automation projects . This role collaborates with the Program Manager to develop and finalize automation concepts, leading debugging and startup commissioning . Additionally, the Controls Engineer will contribute to system manuals , technical documentation , and customer training .
Key Responsibilities :
- Conduct system risk assessments and ensure safety compliance .
- Select and size electrical hardware components .
- Generate electrical schematics and bill of materials (BOM) .
- Design panel layouts and perform heat calculation analysis .
- Size and design pneumatic systems and plumbing solutions .
- Develop system hardware architecture and automation network layouts .
- Write Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) logic and function blocks .
- Create and integrate Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) .
- Commission and program industrial robots ( FANUC, ABB, Kuka ), including path programming and touch-up points .
- Travel onsite (approximately 25% ) for startup and commissioning .
- Integrate auxiliary equipment (e.g., laser markers, parts washers, comparators ).
- Interface with machine tools for machine tending applications .
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations .
