Position Summary 

The Physician Assistant is responsible for delivering safe and professional IV therapy for patients on specialty medications that treat neurological, rheumatologic, gastroenterological, and immunological disorders. This role will be highly involved in helping to implement and support best clinical practices for our clinic, patients, and referral sources.

Job Duties 

• Provides direct patient care in the form of evaluating and documenting patient clinical assessments and IV therapy as aligned with the company, federal and state policies for both pediatric and adult patients. 
• Prepares/compounds sterile admixtures for immediate use per FDA package insert and Flex Care clinical protocol. 
• Communicates with physicians and other health care providers on clinical services-related issues. 
• Prescribes necessary medications as necessary to mitigate acute infusion reactions, under the supervision of the infusion center Medical Director. 
• Administers prescribed intravenous and subcutaneous medications and biologics, adhering to prescriber orders and applicable FDA dosing parameters. 
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process (self, systems, environment, and instrumentation) in meeting clinical outcomes. 
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and clinical operations functioning. 
• Oversees and evaluates infusion nursing services and the implementation of policies and procedures and clinical drug protocols to ensure coordination and safe delivery of care. 
• Serves as an onsite clinical resource for clinical staff and referral sources when the Managing Nurse Practitioner is not onsite or immediately available. 

• Assists the clinical team in the entry, review, and validation of prescriber orders received by faxed referral or verbal order. 
• Assists in the review of lab work drawn on site, and the reporting of any critical values to the referring provider. 
• Completes initial and ongoing review of clinical protocols for all infusibles/injectables provided by FlexCare to maintain clinical competency.
• • Assures that all patient-related documentation and clinical reports are accurately completed, submitted, and/or filed promptly, according to internal and external regulatory requirements and in support of the billing process.
•  Participates in department Quality Assurance activities as requested.

Supervisory Responsibility 

This role has no supervisory requirements. 

Work Environment 

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
