2nd shift Tool Room Machinists at Flexco can expect a starting compensation for between $32.00 and $40.00 per hour, or more, depending on skills and experience.

Purpose: Perform duties to build jigs, fixtures, gauges, tool components and repair parts and repair, construct, and test production and special machinery.

Education Requirements

  • Use advanced trade mathematics together with visualizing and the use of complicated prints, and use all varieties of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, veneer calipers, height gauge, gauge blocks, and coordinate measuring machine.
  • Knowledge of Tool Room Machines.
  • Equivalent to complete accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Light physical effort required to handle tools and material, which is equivalent to frequently lifting or moving light weight material or, occasionally, average weights.
  • Ability to lift up to 45lbs.
  • Exposure to oil, chips and noise, but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable.

Competency Requirements

  • Ability to work to very close limits of high accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Work from prints, sketches, handbooks, machine manuals, and instructions:
  • Plan and lay out machinery methods to build jigs, fixtures, gauges, and repair facts working from prints and sketches.
  • Select proper steel material, set up, and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, drills, and honing equipment to perform a variety of machining operations and manual machine tools to build extremely close tolerance tools and parts.
  • Determine processing methods, tooling needs and tool feeds and speeds for most efficient and cost effective operation.
  • Fit and assemble fixture and tool sections.
  • Repair production machinery, tear down equipment, troubleshoot, locate and rebuild, and replace defective parts, reassemble, and tryout.
  • Build special production machinery working from prints and sketches, machine and assemble parts and components, and test for proper operation working with Engineering personnel.
  • Work closely with Tool and Die Makers to assist with building tool components.
  • Cut I/D and O/D threads on engine lathes as required.
  • Use a variety of manual machine tools and precision inspection tools, coordinate measuring machine, gauge blocks, surface grinders, cutter grinders, and hand tools.
