What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Technician position at Flexicon Corporation?
Flexicon Corporation is a world leader in the design and manufacture of custom-engineered bulk material handling equipment and integrated plant-wide systems that transport, discharge, fill, weigh, blend, deliver and/or feed a broad range of powder and bulk solid materials. Flexicon is an international organization with subsidiaries located on (4) continents, each with complete sales, service, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities.
We are seeking a Manufacturing Technician to work with our Engineering Department on tube and sheet laser programming. The successful candidate will have at minimum a 2-year degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Design. Additionally, successful candidates will have knowledge of manufacturing processes, and CNC or CAD programming.
Responsibilities:
1) Program Creation: Writing and editing code (usually in G-code or M-code) or using machine specific software (e.g. nesting software) to instruct CNC machines on how to cut, shape, drill, or finish materials like metal, plastic, or wood based on technical drawings or 3D models.
2) Blueprint Interpretation: Analyzing engineering drawings, CAD (Computer-Aided Design) files, or CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) outputs to understand part specifications, tolerances, and dimensions.
3) Toolpath Planning: Determining the most efficient sequence of machine operations—such as cutting paths, speeds, feeds, and tool changes—to achieve the desired outcome while minimizing waste and wear.
4) Machine Setup: Collaborating with operators to select and set up tools, fixtures, and materials in the CNC machine, ensuring everything aligns with the programmed instructions.
5) Simulation and Testing: Running simulations to verify the program’s accuracy and safety, then conducting test runs on the machine to check for errors or imperfections in the produced parts.
6) Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and fixing issues in the code or machine performance when parts don’t meet specs, such as adjusting parameters for tool wear, material variations, or programming mistakes.
7) Optimization: Refining programs to improve cycle times, reduce material usage, or enhance precision, often tweaking variables like spindle speed or cutting depth.
8) Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of programs, setups, and modifications for future reference, repeatability, or compliance with quality standards.
9) Collaboration: Working closely with manufacturing engineers, machinists, and designers to ensure the program aligns with production goals and resolves any design-to-manufacturing challenges.
10) Maintenance Awareness: While not always directly responsible, may often monitor machine performance and report issues to maintenance teams to keep equipment in top shape.
