The Customs Business Operations team is looking for a dynamic and driven Business Operations Data Associate to help support and accelerate the growth of Flexport's Customs Operations and Trade Services. This role will provide critical business analysis and insights to optimize operations, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall customer experience.
As a key member of the team, you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. You will play a pivotal role in supporting day-to-day operations, refining processes, and contributing to key initiatives that shape the future of the Customs and Trade Services sector. Key stakeholders: Broker Managers, Product Managers, Data Analytics team, Finance Associates

As a key member of the team, you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. You will play a pivotal role in supporting day-to-day operations, refining processes, and contributing to key initiatives that shape the future of the Customs and Trade Services sector. Key stakeholders: Broker Managers, Product Managers, Data Analytics team, Finance Associates
You will:
- Utilize SQL, LookML, and Looker to extract, analyze, and visualize business performance data. Build and maintain data models and dashboards that provide actionable insights for leadership teams.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure the smooth flow of data from source systems to BI tools. Optimize data pipelines to ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
- Work with teams across the organization (Finance, Marketing, Sales, HR) to gather business requirements and translate them into clear data needs, creating reporting frameworks and dashboards that align with each department’s goals.
- Use LookML to create and optimize complex data models for Looker, ensuring that they meet business requirements and are scalable for future growth. Troubleshoot and optimize performance for large datasets.
- Provide on-demand data analysis and reporting to senior leadership for business-critical decisions. Proactively identify opportunities for deeper data analysis and present findings in a clear, actionable manner.
- Develop automated reporting systems and dashboards that allow real-time monitoring of business KPIs. Use Looker and SQL to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for operational improvements
- Train internal teams on how to use Looker, LookML, and other data tools. Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for reporting and dashboard usage
- Continuously evaluate and improve data reporting processes. Stay updated on new BI tools and trends to implement the best practices and technologies that drive better decision-making
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field (Master’s degree a plus).
- Expertise in utilizing SQL, LookML, and Looker to design, build, and optimize data models, reports, and dashboards for business intelligence and data analysis.
- 3 years of experience in business operations, management consulting, or a related role.
- Proven ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across teams.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
