Higher education institution is looking for a temporary Investment/Endowment Accountant on a part-time basis.
Hours/Schedule: 20-30 hours/week, flexible schedule
Job Type: Contract, approximately 5-6 months in length
Location Requirements: Hybrid, 1day/week onsite (opportunity for full remote after training)
Rate: $50-$55/hour, competitive based on experience
Job Description: The Investment/Endowment Accountant will manage and reconcile endowment accounting and investment-related transactions. This role will involve recording and reconciling investment activities in the general ledger, ensuring compliance with donor requirements for endowed and restricted funds, and working closely with the custodian and outsourced investment teams. The successful candidate will also support various accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, audit preparations, and special projects.
Responsibilities:
-Record all endowment-related transactions and reconcile endowment accounting on a quarterly basis
-Accurately record investment transactions in the general ledger and financial statements, ensuring timely reconciliation to meet donor requirements for endowed and other restricted funds
-Act as the liaison with the custodian and the outsourced Investment team, ensuring accurate recording of all investment-related transactions, including purchases, sales, capital calls, and distributions
-Process general ledger transactions, prepare journal entries, and review complex reconciliations
-Assist with various accounting functions, including providing necessary information and documentation for the annual audit and tax return
-Assist with the investment of short-term working capital and other miscellaneous investments.
-Undertake special projects and other assigned duties.
Qualifications:
-Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience preferably in higher education endowment, accounting or similar department
-Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
-Prior experience with investment functions and related compliance
-Comprehensive knowledge of internal controls standards and financial reporting
-Must be highly detail-oriented with strong analytic, problem-solving, financial and organizational skills
-Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities efficiently
-Excellent, oral and written communication skills required
-Must be comfortable learning and using cloud-based complex financial system
-Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel
-Prior experience in higher education or other non-profit setting
-CPA, CTP and/or MS/MBA preferred
-Workday experience highly preferred
