This job is for FlexSteel Pipe located in Baytown, TX.

Onsite 5 days a week.

The Industrial Engineer I will be responsible to assist, coordinate and actively participate in manufacturing improvement initiatives to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost goals. The role requires hands-on involvement on the shop floor, engaging with operators, supervisors, managers etc. to understand, measure and validate problems and solutions. The role encompasses the FlexSteel manufacturing organization which comprises of Pipe Manufacturing and Connections Manufacturing. Any prior exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is very beneficial. But the role will involve continuous learning and application of these methodologies on an ongoing basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist manufacturing and supply chain teams in process improvement initiatives using process mapping, motion and work time studies, man-machine combination charts, standard work layouts etc., and other appropriate manufacturing documentation

Evaluate manufacturing configuration (cells, layouts, man-machine combinations etc.) to understand and quantify impact of each on Throughput, Productivity and Labor Cost etc.

Develop throughput models for various scenarios during project evaluation, continuous improvement events etc. to objectively chose the most optimized option for future state

Develops visual standard work, work combination charts, process flow charts and other documentation to train the workforce in new procedures and sustain the improvements

Support the leadership team to develop and execute the initiatives identified in the future state using Kaizen and Project Management methodologies.

Supports site focus on reducing waste to yield concrete operational and product savings, productivity savings and gains, release cash and align with annual business plan objectives and lean roadmap.

Facilitate continuous improvement events throughout manufacturing site, supply chain, and other FlexSteel areas using tools within the Lean System like Flow, SMED, TPM and Standard Work, etc.

Participate in the Daily Management Walk (MDI) sessions for monitoring KPI results and assists the teams in using RPS (Rapid Problem Solving) techniques (5 whys, fishbone, etc.) to create countermeasures addressing the KPI misses at all levels (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 levels).

Work with the Site Leadership to report the weekly KPIs, Monthly Operating Reviews and Strategy Deployment Reviews and develop the countermeasures to close gaps in operating performance using the 8D problem solving process.

Develop and deliver training materials and hands-on exercises to train and develop the FlexSteel team members in the principles of Lean and other problem-solving techniques.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or mechanical engineering or business administration with exposure to Manufacturing and Supply Chain Subjects

1 – 3 years’ experience working in Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Logistics functions

Prior experience and knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles and application of methodologies to solving business problems. Internship and Co-op experience with manufacturing and supply chain organizations will be considered.

Experience using AutoCAD, Visio and other tools used for layouts and process flow mapping

Experience using Microsoft Excel for modeling throughput models and time studies

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Strong communication and presentation abilities

Troubleshooting expertise and attention to detail

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Manufacturing :

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.

Regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions (outside weather conditions); high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration.

Occasionally exposed to the risk of radiation or electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
