This is a FlexSteel position and is located in Baytown, TX.

  • Under the direction of the Shipping and Receiving Coordinator and the Shift Team Lead, loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All Material Handlers should follow the SSE, Basics Skills 1 and 2 and what we do with hand tools and basic hands-on activities.
  • Must be Forklift and crane certified.
  • Reads production release notices, material requests, Manufacturing design Specifications or follows oral instructions to ascertain Materials or containers are properly issued, returned, staged, stored, or moved as required.
  • Occasionally load boxed, crated, or palletized materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Supports materials conveyance from or to storage, work sites or designated area, whenever instructed up to and including international shipments.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, reels, or other means of packaging.
  • Ability to receive and properly deliver supplies for personnel across the plant.
  • Ability to use tools or supplies to remove or prevent rust on steel.
  • Accurately Cycle counts all materials and reels.
  • Loads or unloads Industrial Truck, Pick-up or Trailers as needed.
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, or overhead crane.
  • Responsible for all data entry necessary to add, issue and/or return materials in ERP/ Visual.
  • Occasionally, may support manufacturing processes as needed to meet production goals.
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned by immediate Manager as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining a neat, clean, and safe work area that meets 5s standards.
  • Must be able to adhere to FlexSteel’s Attendance Policy
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Pass the Silo unloading module. Produce and distribute reports for the silos.
  • Unload steel strip, Mark, manage inventory and receive into system.
  • Manage FSA reel assembly. Including staging loading and assembling of reels
  • Tubing management, Unload trucks, stage material in correct locations, receive material into system, Pull material for saws, issue material to work orders and return material when required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience in a forward-thinking manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Must have some knowledge of how to operate software programs like spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must possess the ability to read and understand bills of materials and differentiate between parts that are similar in nature.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common frac­tions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situa­tions.
  • Must have ability to work effectively with company personnel and customers.
  • Must be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier.  Must possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Must have regular attendance on the job.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must be able to operate and certify for industrial forklift truck or electric hoist.

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; stand, walk and sit; talk and hear.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly hear voices or alarms, bells, and other noise.

Plant/Shop/Field Services:

    • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.
    • Regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions (outside weather conditions); high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration.
    • Occasionally exposed to the risk of radiation or electrical shock.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
