General Description
The Site Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for providing HSES support to site manufacturing to ensure compliance, assess and mitigate risk, manage short-term and long-term Health, Safety, Environmental and PSM performance. Key responsibilities include teaching, coaching, and mentoring site people in implementing and improving management of HSES. The salary range for this position is $90,000-115,000 annually.
Position Responsibilities
Support site team to maintain and advance site HSES programs and systems including but not limited to the following:
- Reporting directly to the site HSES Manager, drive the successful implementation of Flexsys EHS management systems, standards and policies. Work with the EHS/Site Teams to deliver sustainable compliance and risk management solutions
- Anticipate, identify and evaluate safety concerns, hazardous conditions and unsafe practices: Implement and support safety programs and procedures. Assist all site associates with all aspects of H&S. Monitor the effectiveness of hazard controls and programs.
- Establish a visible presence in process areas to better understand site EHS needs and build relationships with site teams.
- Support, develop and deliver effective training on a variety of H&S topics using multiple delivery methods (face-to-face, computer-based, etc.)
- Investigate and analyze EHS incidents and events. Prepare documentation to ensure adequate investigation and preservation of evidence is completed.
- Coach and guide associates and management regarding safety compliance issues. Ensure each team member understands how his/her role contributes directly to supporting Site EHS and environmental performance.
- Prepare applicable HSES reports as necessary, both internal and external (using multiple methodologies including use of enterprise data management software – iShare)
- Conduct JSA/JHAs, PPE certifications and pre-task safety reviews.
- Perform inspections of processing areas to proactively identify and eliminate hazards and exposures.
- Conduct audits of the EHS Management System as well as Federal, State and local EHS regulations.
- Develop an active employee safety committee that is motivated to influence the workforce to value safety, providing a forum in which labor and management can discuss health and safety issues and collaborate on solutions.
- Perform other work-related tasks as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- BS or BA Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline.
- 4 to 8 years of experience in implementing site HSES compliance and risk management programs in a chemical manufacturing environment with demonstrated results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional, and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist.
- Experience working with Union workforce.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing.
- Experience with OSHA’s Process Safety Management Standard
- Advanced computer skills.
- Audit experience or qualifications.
