We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Sous Chef to join our team at Travelers in Hartford, CT. In this role, you will play a key part in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Culinary Department. You’ll assist with food preparation, menu development, and the execution of daily dishes, while also managing and leading a team of culinary professionals. You will work closely with the Executive Chef and culinary team to create innovative menus and supervise kitchen staff.
This is an exciting opportunity for a culinary professional with at least 5 years of culinary experience, including prior leadership experience in the industry, ideally in hotels, country clubs, or restaurants.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Chef in managing cost controls and monitoring expenses for the department.
- Contribute to the planning and development of menus, ensuring creativity and quality.
- Oversee and execute catering events, ensuring seamless service and customer satisfaction.
- Supervise, train, and manage kitchen staff, ensuring the highest standards of performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the marketing and culinary teams to roll out new culinary programs.
- Minimum 5 years of culinary experience, with at least 2 years in a culinary management role.
- Experience in hotels, country clubs, or restaurants is preferred
- Experience in high-volume, complex food service operations is highly desirable.
- Catering experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with institutional and batch cooking is beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of food trends, production, sanitation, presentation, and food cost controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, email, and the Internet.
- Willingness to participate in client satisfaction programs and activities.
- ServSafe certification is highly preferred.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in the culinary field.
