What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Needs / Adaptive Program Lead position at Flip2It Sports Center?
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Special Needs/Adaptive Program Lead to oversee and manage our Adaptive Gymnastics Program. This role involves working with children of varying abilities, training and supporting our gymnastics coaches to properly teach sensory-friendly and adaptive classes that enhance children's physical fitness, coordination, strength, and self-esteem in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with individuals with special needs, a strong understanding of adaptive programming, and the ability to build a positive, encouraging atmosphere where all participants feel welcome and supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Oversight: Create, implement, and adapt lesson plans for individuals with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities.
- Staff Supervision and Training: Train, mentor, and oversee a team of gymnastic coaches to ensure high-quality program delivery.
- Safety and Inclusion: Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and supportive manner, and promote inclusivity within the gym for all participants, staff, and families.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor and assess participants' progress regularly, providing feedback and adjustments to programs as needed.
- Parent/Guardian Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress, goals, and any challenges that may arise.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members, including coaches and administrative personnel, to ensure seamless integration of adaptive programming within the gym’s overall schedule.
- Event Planning: Assist in organizing special events, such as performance showcases or community outreach programs, to highlight the achievements of adaptive program participants.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Recreation, Kinesiology, or related field (preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years working with individuals with special needs in an educational or recreational setting.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and families.
- Knowledge of adaptive movement techniques and strategies.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Patience, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
- Certifications (preferred but not required):
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with behavior management techniques or certifications in special education or adaptive physical education.
Working Conditions:
- Work will primarily take place within the gym, with some occasional external events or outreach.
- Must be able to assist in physical activity when necessary.
- Must be able to work weekday afternoons / early evenings as that is when a majority of our adaptive classes are.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
