Position Overview:
The Differentiated Learning / STEM Arts Counselor will guide children through hands-on educational activities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) while ensuring that learning experiences are tailored to meet the diverse needs of all campers. This role blends creativity, teaching, and inclusivity, providing engaging lessons in a way that accommodates different learning styles and abilities. The counselor will facilitate individualized learning experiences to encourage the growth of all campers, promoting teamwork and discovery.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Education, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Art, or related field.
- Prior experience in working with children, preferably in educational, afterschool, or camp settings.
- Commitment to health and wellness.
- Must pass a Level II background check.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction techniques and strategies for accommodating diverse learning needs.
- Strong passion for teaching STEM and arts subjects and inspiring young minds.
- Ability to adapt lessons and activities to different learning styles and abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with children, parents, and staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement creative STEAM-based learning activities that accommodate various learning styles, abilities, and interests.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction tailored to the diverse needs of campers.
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment where all campers feel engaged and confident in exploring STEM and arts concepts.
- Foster curiosity and critical thinking through interactive lessons, experiments, and creative projects.
- Encourage campers to work collaboratively on projects, promoting teamwork and communication skills.
- Lead classroom and project set-up, as well as cleanup after activities.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
- Provide individual support to campers who need extra attention, ensuring all campers have access to learning and participate fully.
- Assess campers' progress and complete required reports to senior counselors and camp leadership.
- Participate in regular meetings with camp leadership to discuss camper needs, progress, and program improvements.
- Model appropriate behavior, teamwork, and problem-solving skills for campers.
- Ensure all campers follow safety guidelines during experiments, construction, and other hands-on activities.
- Patience and empathy when working with children of different skill levels.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
