Job Description
The Audit Clerk I assist taxpayers in understanding tax information concerning real and personal taxation and tax laws. Makes necessary additions, deletions, or changes on tax rolls.
Essential Functions:
- Assists tax payer in performing various duties such as, but not limited to adding new vehicles, providing adjustments for high miles, prepares homestead exemption application, explaining tax exempt status by tax commission, providing various information for different forms, providing assistance in direction and information.
- Performs various duties such as answering telephones, providing assistance to the Lake City office, providing information on estimated taxes on vehicles and boats, providing information on tag transfers, lost or stolen tags. Notices, etc., providing information to new residents as to avenues to take for registration, etc., and obtaining information for real estate tax refund questions.
- Performs data entry for abatements, estimates, vehicle tax notices, etc.
- Prepares vehicles and watercraft tax notices from computerized reports, assistance to public, refunding applicants for overpayment of various taxes and filing.
- Utilizes various forms, documents and reports such as tax statements, vehicle titles, insurance forms, registration cards, copy of tax laws, tax exempt notices, telephone messages, wildlife and tax commission forms, etc.
- Assists veterans with completing and filing out paperwork for submitting to Department of Revenue (DOR) for exemptions.
- Maintains status reports, address changes, and updates information in regards to Exempt Property on Vehicles and Watercraft with computer links to DMV, DOR and DNR.
- Search web on National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), Kelly Blue Book (KBB), and Edmunds for help placing assessment on vehicles not rendered by Department of Revenue (DOR).
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals.

- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Requires a high school diploma supplemented by one year of clerical or data entry experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

- The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
