Job Description
The Constable I serves various legal documents and eviction notices at residences and places of business.
Essential Functions:
- Serves various court documents, including summons and complaints, claims and delivery, warrants, eviction notices, orders and rules, juror summons and witness summons, at residences and places of business.
- Provides courtroom security and assists with building security.
- Maintains adequate care of equipment.
- Serves civil legal documents to the public.
- Inputs delivery of service into computer at the closing of day.
- Ensures security of physical bank deposits.
- Receives and responds to complaints from the public and local merchants.
- Interacts and communicates with departmental supervisors and employees, County department Directors, managers and employees, defendants, plaintiffs, jurors, attorneys, judges, court personnel, medical personnel and the general public.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Continued education in firearms and legal updates.
- Fills in for other constables as needed.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Requires a high school diploma and five to eleven months of general work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license.
- Must complete training and be certified by the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.
- Must be able to maintain required level of proficiency in the use of firearms.

- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must have the ability to travel up to 20%.
