Job Description
The Library Associate – Children’s Services provides library services and materials to children, caregivers, families, and partner organizations.
Essential Functions:
- Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers. Responds to and resolves patron questions or concerns.
- Plans, conducts, promotes, and evaluates library programs for children, families, and partner organizations.
- Checks materials in and out, creates and updates patron accounts, shelves materials, and assists patrons in finding materials. Provides readers’ advisory and book recommendations.
- Assists patrons with computers, online catalog, and other library equipment and resources.
- Creates displays, bulletin boards, and other activities promoting the library, literacy, and reading.
- Assists in planning and conducting community outreach activities.
- Participates in library’s ongoing developmental training program.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assists with operation of departmental social media accounts.
- Assists with Bookmobile services as needed.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as needed.
- Works evenings and weekends as required.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree; 1-2 years of library or customer service experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills.
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

- The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
