Job Description
The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of extensive plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance duties, routine custodial, building maintenance and grounds maintenance duties at assigned County buildings.
Essential Functions:
- Performs a variety of building maintenance tasks, including but not limited to repairing HVAC systems, electrical wiring, making plumbing repairs; performing carpentry work to repair or build structures; painting, maintaining lighting, etc.
- Inspects and evaluates work performed by other custodians.
- Performs various custodial duties as vacuuming and mopping floors; cleaning and stocking restrooms with soap and paper products; cleaning windows and other glass surfaces; emptying trash, etc.
- Performs various grounds maintenance duties, including trimming shrubbery, mowing grass, raking leaves, sweeping walks, insect control, etc.
- Monitors safety and cleanliness of parking lot.
- Performs machinery maintenance and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.

- Operates a variety of equipment such as mechanic’s tools, carpentry tools, diagnostic tools, electrician’s tools, hand and power tools, vehicle, lawn mower, hedge trimmer, edger, lawn tools, etc.
- Moves furniture and equipment.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Monitors and enforces policies regarding the use of the public building and parking lot.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Requires high school diploma supplemented by one to two years of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing repair experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license.

- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
