Job Description
The Vehicle Operator II is responsible for operating light and heavy vehicles to accomplish and ensure efficient County road construction and maintenance.
Essential Functions:
- Operates dump truck to load and haul needed materials to assigned job site.
- Transports debris from different job sites to landfill.
- Assists coworkers with hauling as needed.
- Submits daily production reports.
- Maintains roadways (cutting overhanging limbs) for assigned area.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of department vehicles and equipment.
- Completes vehicle and equipment maintenance reports, indicating when service was performed and needed repairs.
- Operates a variety of equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, excavator, trucks, etc.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Transports equipment to job sites as needed.
- Assists with other projects as needed.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Requires a high school education with one to two years of experience in heavy equipment operation or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must have valid S.C. driver’s license.
- Must have a valid S.C. Commercial Driver’s License, Class A (preferred), or Class B.

- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 50 lb. objects regularly.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
