Job Description
The Zoning Technician performs zoning functions at the first level of customer contact for the Planning Department.
Essential Functions:
- Greets visitors to the department and provides information based on the type of request.
- Review permit applications for completion of zoning compliance prior to customer receipt of a building permit.
- Processes permitting data from applicants into the department’s database.
- Processes payments, schedules inspections, and issues permits.
- Responds to zoning questions, provides forms and copies of documents to the public upon request, and verifies County records such as tax, street, subdivision, property boundaries, easements, site and building locations, etc.
- Types forms, correspondence, and memos.
- Processes documents after administrative approval, based on review, verification, and knowledge of internal procedures.
- Assists with permit issuance with a special focus on manufactured housing permits.
- Serves as a rotating staff person within the department’s satellite office in Lake City, SC.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assists in the photocopying, delivering, and mailing of documents, and posting signs for the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and other committees.
- Assists in answering the telephone, directs calls, and/or gives pertinent information based on the nature of the request.
- Works Permit Desk as needed.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma and considerable clerical experience in an office with considerable public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in the permitting and zoning field is preferred.
