Job Summary
The Development Manager is a dynamic, creative, and organized professional who is interested in helping a mission-driven nonprofit thrive and grow. Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Manager is responsible for developing and assisting in the growth of grant funding for various programs and operations, the annual fund, and special events. They will be part of setting revenue goals and implementing strategies to ensure goals are met for various fundraising areas. The ideal candidate will bring excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of the organization’s mission and programs to effectively inspire donor engagement and investment.
Position Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Fundraising Expertise: Minimum of two years of experience in fundraising, including managing annual funds, grants, and donor relationships. Candidates with comparable experience in sales, business development, or other relevant nonprofit functions are encouraged to apply. Transferable skills such as relationship management, strategic planning, grant or proposal writing, and donor/client engagement will be strongly considered, even if they were acquired outside of traditional fundraising roles. Passion for the mission and a willingness to learn are essential.
- Event Management: Experience planning and executing special events, including budgeting, sponsorship solicitation, and donor engagement activities.
- CRM Proficiency: Strong knowledge and practical use of CRM systems for donor tracking, reporting, and analysis.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to inspire donor engagement and effectively articulate the organization’s mission.
- Strategic and Organized: Proven ability to develop strategies, track actions and deadlines, and align with overall organizational goals.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Grant Writing and Management (30%)
- Research foundation and public support opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and impact, including local, state, federal and private announcements.
- Partner with the Program department to write, organize, edit, and submit grant applications and progress reports in accordance with grantor requirements and deadlines.
- Develop and maintain the organization’s calendar for grant-related deadlines, track actions, and coordinate timelines with staff as needed.
- Develop and maintain case for support and impact of giving, including written materials and current relevant statistics for proposals and donor stewardship.
2. Annual Fund Management (50%)
- Partner with the marketing team to create compelling messages and materials that emphasize donor impact and key fundraising priorities.
- Support the Development Director in cultivating and strengthening donor relationships through research, personalized outreach, meetings, tailored proposals, events, and thoughtful stewardship efforts.
- Manage all aspects of donor communications, including gift acknowledgements, direct mail campaigns, appeal letters, and other donor outreach materials.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the database, ensuring seamless tracking and reporting.
3. Special Events (10%)
- Lead the creation and execution of special events, including cultivation receptions, donor recognition gatherings, and fundraising campaigns.
- Support the Development Committee and volunteers involved in fundraising initiatives.
4. Administration (10%)
- Keep abreast of data, research, statistics, and information about issues, trends and community needs relating to our programs and service population.
- Keep up to date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and inform leadership of strategies that could benefit the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
