This position is a STIPEND position in conjuntion with another role within Williams Middle School.
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of athletic activities. These responsibilities include developing and managing the department's budget, hiring coaches, managing to schedule, promoting athletic activities and events, and tracking team progress. The Athletic Director will also liaise with sports conference or division administrators on the department's behalf.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the principal in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of the coaching staff.
- Provides leadership and guidance for coaches.
- Coordinates and manages athletic events.
- Coordinates training for coaches and student-athletes.
- Schedules all teams and athletic facilities.
- Assists coaches in making travel arrangements.
- Monitors, evaluates, and supports school athletic events and compiles a list of all athletic physicals and insurance for student eligibility.
- Responsible for site preparation, ticket sales, officials, security, concessions, programs, publicity, and medical help.
- Coordinates services among school-level personnel, including lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services, field assistance, medical and emergency services, game officials, scorer, and timer assignments.
- Coordinates and maintains school-level direct student-athlete recruitment process for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
- Coordinates the certification of school-level student-athletes for Florence 1 Schools – Eligibility and Compliance.
- Responsible for the cleanliness, care, and maintenance of all facilities, equipment, and fields.
- Responsible for the entire athletic program, abiding by the rules and regulations of the School, the District, and the South Carolina High School League.
- Interprets eligibility policies to students, parents, and the community in cooperation with the principal, enforces eligibility standards and policies developed by the South Carolina High School League and Florence One Schools.
- Arranges for the physical examination of athletes prior to the beginning of each season and verifies insurance coverage.
- Tracking and reporting on team progress through analyzing past performances, recent successes, and areas for improvement.
- Monitors attendance and academic progress of all athletes and prepares squad lists to verify student-athlete eligibility.
- Maintains a current athletic handbook listing detailed policies, procedures, and practices for both students and employees.
- Responsible for all financial matters of the program including the athletic budget, the inventory of equipment and supplies, and the recommendation of all athletic purchases to the principal.
- Promotes positive public relations in the school and community.
- Attends state, regional, and national meetings whenever possible; meets with coaches and ensures all sports have an equal and adequate opportunity to present their sports equipment budgets.
- Keeps the principal informed of progress and problems in the athletic program.
- Evaluates the total program and makes recommendations to the administration for program improvement.
- Responsible for maintaining proper conduct and behavior of all coaches and athletes.
- Assumes head coaching responsibilities in the event of unfilled coaching vacancies mid-season.
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed
- Responsible for enforcing safety procedures.
